Pepita: My First Guitar

What is the Pepita program?

Pepita, My First Guitar, is an educational and artistic project created by the Alhambra Guitarras Foundation. It is designed for boys and girls between 4 and 9 years old who are beginning to explore the world of the Spanish guitar.

With a real instrument, adapted to their size and accompanied by pedagogical materials created by experts in music education, the program aims to awaken sensitivity, coordination, creativity, and an emotional connection with music in children from a very early age.

Pepita is much more than a simple guitar: it is a gateway for children to discover the world of the guitar, a tool for conscious play, and a means to share special moments with family and teachers.

Pedagogical and Artistic Objectives

The Pepita program is born from a pedagogical vision that seeks to be integrated, active, and respectful of children’s pace and characteristics. Its main goals are:

  • Familiarize children with the Spanish guitar as part of their emotional and cultural world.
  • Enhance motor, cognitive, and expressive skills by playing with sounds, rhythms, and movement.
  • Introduce musical language starting from direct experience, without pressure or external expectations.
  • Stimulate creativity and imagination through artistic activities connected to the children’s universe.
  • Support teachers with specific pedagogical resources that can be used at school or at home.

The methodology combines active approaches such as Orff, Dalcroze, and Kodály, integrating music, movement, words, and images in a natural and enjoyable process.

Activities and Resources for Children

The Pepita universe includes a collection of materials carefully designed to enrich the musical experience from a playful, visual, and participatory perspective. Among them are:

  • Educational illustrated story: a musical story featuring Pepita as a character, accompanying her on an adventure to discover the guitar through imagination.
  • Topic-based didactic units: created according to ages and levels, so each child can learn at their own pace.
  • Support videos: short videos with practical activities, tutorials, and musical games that help understand and practice.
  • Sensory and psychomotor exercises: designed for the body, attention, and coordination, making the experience more comprehensive.
  • Training for teachers and parents: workshops, webinars, and an online community where they can share ideas and questions.

These tools are provided as part of the Pepita Kit, which includes the guitar, a guide for families and teachers, and access to online resources to complement learning.
